Every year, we immerse ourselves in London Climate Action Week and all that it has to offer. We seek the events and opportunities that will help us connect with the climate tech ecosystem and build on our knowledge of how our local communities are contributing to the cause.
This year, we wanted to join in and facilitate these connections and share our knowledge and expertise with exciting startups in London.
Instead of ‘just’ being the attendees, eager to learn and network and be inspired, why not step into the position of host? And why not do that during a week that is so important to the climate ecosystem in London and across the UK?
Building on our virtual masterclasses that help climate tech teams get to grips with one communications skill at a time, we decided it was time to take our free offering into real life.
Creating a space for climate tech communications to take centre stage
There are many wonderful events during London Climate Action Week. We’ve been to our fair share. But over the years, we have noticed that one topic is often left out of the conversation: communications.
Our role as a communications agency that works exclusively with climate tech startups and VCs in Europe is to put a spotlight on storytelling and remind founders and teams how important it is to their commercial success.
We decided to create a workshop that did just that.
It was not about selling our services or sharing a list of tick-box exercises that climate tech startups could simply find on Google; our workshop was all about doing the work in real-time.
We broke down three foundations of climate tech communications – messaging, tagline and PR – and set tasks for attendees to complete individually or as a small group and then share with the room. It meant that conversations were sparked organically and attendees would walk away with tangible output to present to their teams back at the office.
We prompted participants to start drafting their company’s key messages using our messaging matrix as a guide. We guided them through creative prompts to work on their company tagline. We helped them turn company news into stories worth sharing with journalists.
This interactive workshop required everyone in the room to be switched on and ready to reflect, giving attendees a taste of what working with Life Size looks like.
What happens next?
Hosting this workshop was a standout moment for Life Size and the UK team.
The questions brought to us during the workshop and the feedback shared shortly after have provided us with content and ideas that we can take into our work and to our clients.
We have also decided to do it all again next year. We hope to see you there!
Can’t wait that long?
